Should I outsource?

It is really a personal issue, but in 2010, it is becoming more and more popular to outsource projects for your business.  Whether your company is just trying to get up and running or has been operating for years, outsourcing is a way to get things done quickly, efficiently, and usually, more affordable.

What part of my business should I outsource?

Businesses have many areas that can be outsourced.  If you have a business that relies on the web, you may have all the IT and web designing done in house.  This leaves simpler tasks, like data entry, a candidate for outsourcing.   Learning to outsource the right tasks can make a big different in your profit margins at the end of the quarter.

Commonly outsourced areas include:

  • Accounting
  • Billing
  • Order fulfillment
  • Human Resources
  • Payroll

These are common services you can outsource to an experienced company.  They will work with you as an independent contractor and hopefully get the job done more efficiently.

How is my company going to benefit?

The company can benefit by not having a large and in-house staff.  This could save you:

  • money
  • space
  • resources

But be careful what you choose to outsource: sometimes the job in question will be done better internally than by an outside company.

Should I use local companies or off shore?

Opinions very on this issue, sometimes quite strongly.  Some like to have the work done by companies or individuals that they can meet with face to face, if necessary.  It's possible the job may require someone that knows the local area. If this is you, outsourcing to a local company is the best way to go.

For other jobs, the main purpose you are outsourcing is to find someone with experience who is willing to do the job for less money.  Because of the Internet, these kind of jobs can be done by anyone in any country.  Competition can enormous for these type of jobs and you will find a lot of people competing to provide the best services for the money.

Bottom Line....

Some business owners are convinced that the only way to outsource is to use offshore locations where the labor is cheaper.  It's a personal choice. Only you can make a decision about how you want to outsource tasks to improve your business.
